2022 English Speech Contest

In order to cultivate the learning atmosphere and learning initiative of English on campus, the English Corner of University of International College (UIC) held the 2022 English Speech Contest on November 17th in D Hall. Assistant Professor Kai Cheong (John) Lei, Senior Lecturer Chuan (Riona) Chen, Lecturer Fan (Julian) Yang, Lecturer Song (Song) Xie, Lecturer Yanling (Aileen) Cai from UIC English team presented as judges. The final contest had attracted more than 100 audiences.

The topics of the 2022 English Speech Contest were "From zero sum to win win" and "Hello, future!". The contest this year consisted of four stages, including video audition, the preliminary, the semi-final, and the final. 134 contestants attended the video auditions, and 71 of them entered the preliminary contest, which was held in the form of a 3-minute self-introduction and a 2-minute Q&A. After fierce competitions, 19 contestants qualified for the semi-final. The assessment of the semi-final consisted of a 3-minute prepared speech and a 2-minute Q&A. 10 contestants entered the final contest, of which a 2-minute impromptu speech was added to the assessment.

The results of the contest were revealed on the night: Vong Nga In was crowned the champion and won the Best Impromptu Speech Award, Liu Xipeng won the second prize and the Best Stage Manner Award, and Sun Jinze won the third prize.
